The longest-serving alderman

Ed Burke is Chair of the Finance Committee and the only alderman who has his own PAC. He uses this PAC called the Burnham Committee to dispense funds to political allies.[1]

He intimidates opposition to his aldermanic power through the $11 million he has stockpiled in funds and investments from his various campaigns. Burke has not received a single donation from constituents in his ward since the last election, and receives the majority of his contributions from businesses located outside of his ward. [2] He is one of the last of the old guard of Chicago politics and has long since abandoned any pretense of actually serving his ward and constituents in favor of bold money and power grabs.[3]

Despite the FBI raid of Burke's City Hall and ward offices on November 29th, 2018,[4] Burke held a huge holiday fundraiser less than a week later. This event was well attended by local power players as well as the following aldermen: Roderick Sawyer (6th), Ray Lopez (15th), David Moore (17th), Walter Burnett (27th), Ariel Reboyras (30th), Nick Sposato (38th), Margaret Laurino (39th), Patrick O'Connor (40th), and Joe Moore (49th). [5]

The FBI charged Burke with extortion on January 3rd, 2019.[6]
